E-nano futures: the smallest index futures yet

CME's E-nano contracts are one-tenth the size of a Micro E-mini. Here is what they are, what they cost and where to trade them.

Updated October 24, 2026

What CME launched

On August 24, 2026, CME Group listed E-nano futures on four US stock indexes: the S&P 500 (NES), Nasdaq-100 (NNQ), Russell 2000 (N2K) and Dow Jones Industrial Average (NDOW). NES, NNQ and N2K trade under CME rules; NDOW trades under CBOT rules. They trade nearly 23 hours a day in the nearest two quarterly months: March, June, September and December.

CME's reason was price. With the indexes at record highs, even a Micro E-mini S&P 500 controls about $35,000 of stock, which is a lot of exposure for a small account.

How the sizes compare

S&P 500$50 per point$5 per point$0.50 per point
Nasdaq-100$20 per point$2 per point$0.20 per point
Russell 2000$50 per point$5 per point$0.50 per point
Dow Jones$5 per point$0.50 per point$0.05 per point

Watch the commission, not just the size

Most brokers charge the same per-contract commission for an E-nano as for a Micro. Exchange and NFA fees don't shrink tenfold either. One E-nano carries a tenth of a Micro's market exposure but often nearly the same trading cost, so commissions eat a far bigger share of each point you make. A $0.75 commission on an E-nano S&P 500 contract equals 1.5 index points of movement per side.

E-nanos make the most sense for sizing positions precisely, for hedging a small stock portfolio, or for learning with real money at small risk. For frequent trading, the cost per dollar of exposure usually favors Micros.
